Bluegrass Guitar Essentials
By Scott Nygaard
Bluegrass Guitar Essentials provides a thorough grounding in the essential musical elements of bluegrass guitar. Scott Nygaard’s concise and well-written lessons cover all the traditional aspects of bluegrass guitar, from a primer on bluegrass rhythm guitar, fiddle tunes, the blues, and crosspicking to more contemporary approaches to flatpicking, including unusual chords and solo flatpicking.
In each lesson you’ll find exercises and licks to play in both standard notation and tablature, along with chord diagrams and fingerings. You’ll find 13 full songs in the book. Includes CD with complete guitar transcriptions.

Being able to deliver exactly what a student wants to learn is a skill that will give any teacher an edge over the competition. Few guitar educators have developed this set of chops as well as Happy Traum. Pioneering the concept of selling audio lessons on cassette tapes in the early ’70s, Traum continuously followed the technological trends, making his offerings available on CDs, VHS videos, DVDs, and most recently, his own YouTube channel. Similarly, when Traum realized that there was a market for lessons in more playing styles than his own country-blues-infused fingerpicking, he looked to his community of musician friends to build a catalog that now includes everything from folk to rock. In this issue of GuitarPro News, Traum discusses some of the secrets to his success and offers valuable advice for how to produce a pro-level teaching video.

KEEPING YOUR BAND TOGETHER
How to develop a lasting relationship with your band by making sure that all members have similar expectations and are compatible musically and personally. By Paul Kotapish
Starting a band is all too easy. You don’t even need a gig. One good jam session plus an inspired name and you are in business. Keeping that band together is a different story altogether. “Run it like a business” is a mantra that is often repeated in the music industry, but band longevity isn’t necessarily tied to commercial success. Plenty of bands never make it out of the garage but are still happily rehearsing 20 years down the road, while many groups that do catch a bullet to the top disintegrate as soon as they see the limelight. Checking whether everyone has similar goals and expectations for personal and financial rewards alike can go a long way to avoiding friction down the road. [More]
