A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR, TEJA GERKEN

Ask any touring music professional—being away from home for long stretches can inspire thoughts of a different way to make a living. Most of us love this business too much to give it up completely, so finding another type of music career is something we may face at some point. Perhaps this is how guitarist Jim Brunberg felt after several years of playing in Box Set. In this issue of GuitarPro News, Andrew DuBrock talks with Brunberg about the logistics of taking his experience as a musician and turning it into a thriving hub of musical activity in Portland, Oregon.

GuitarPro News is hitting the road later this month, traveling to the Newport Guitar Festival in Miami Beach, Florida (see Industry News below). I’ll be among a team of Acoustic Guitar representatives in attendance, so please feel free to stop by our table to say hello, check out our line of books and magazines, or give feedback if you’re making the trek yourself.

Senior Editor Teja Gerken has been at Acoustic Guitar for ten years. He is an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist who frequently performs in the San Francisco Bay Area and internationally.

Dealing with the Unexpected

This article will look at some of the sources of what can go wrong, from issues with the audience to sound reinforcement troubles and booking misunderstandings.
